Urgent Signs

I've had a lovely weekend in Dublin so far. On Friday evening I went to an interesting film called Partir in the Dublin Film Festival with my friend David. The film's star Kristin Scott Thomas spoke for a while after it and she was presented with an award. Later today I'm going to see Tilda Swinton being interviewed and also see a film she stars in called Lo Sono L'Amore (I Am Love). Both events today are with my lovely friend Anna Lena so a quality day ahead. This morning I also got my exam results for my last semester, in my film degree course. I had done 3 subjects and the results were all in the 70's, delighted!
Today's song is one of my favourite types of music. A mash up. It's a mix of Snoop Dogg and Justin Timberlake's Signs from 2005 and Urgent by Foreigner which was a hit in 1981. Foreigner are best known for their 1984 song I Want to Know what Love Is, which was a USA and UK number one and was also covered by Mariah last year. Tina Arena's version is also gorgeous. The other hit that Foreigner had in the early 80's was Waiting For A Girl Like You which got to number 2 in the USA, Olivia Newton John's Physical kept it off the top back then. Urgent got to number 4 in the Billboard Hot 100 chart but only got to number 45 in the UK on it's second release back in 1981. All those songs must have been played a lot anyway on Irish radio back then for me to love the song. Urgent features a great saxophone by Junior Walker who worked mainly with Motown and also features Thomas Dolby on synthesizer who himself had singles like the top 20 UK hit Hyperactive in 1984. I bet you liked that one Enda, if you're reading this! The audio mix of the mash up of Urgent and Signs is by Lock3down and the video is by VJ Brewski who I featured here many times before. I would love if that type of rock/power ballad genre as defined by bands by Foreigner made a revival in this decade. Maybe the success of songs like Don't Stop Believin' by Journey will help bring back that genre of music but it has to happen in the USA first.
